Female Downy Woodpecker On A Tree

Downy Woodpeckers are a little hard on some trees as they peck away at the tree bark to find insects to eat. They are a friendly little bird though once they get to know and trust you. Just fun much fun for bird watchers to watch.

This is a cute photo of this female Downy Woodpecker.  She was concentrating as she worked her way around the suet feeder. Winter months is when I see more of these birds and look forward to seeing more of them during the winter season when food scarce.

I love bird watching and have been delighted with the Downy Woodpeckers that come to feast in the yard at the feeders.

This is a free picture of a an adult female Downy Woodpecker eating seeds from the suet feeder.

Here is a fun view of this female Downy Woodpecker that shows her using her tail feathers to help with her balancing act.  The black bars on the white tail feathers distinguish her as a Downy rather than a Hairy Woodpecker.

I like sitting on the back porch where there is a suet feeder hanging just for the Downy Woodpeckers to come and eat. They are so cute and cautions of people when they do not know and trust you. Once they get to know a person and they they are safe around those people, these birds do not mind getting up close and personal.

I have had company come right by the Downy Woodpeckers when coming in the door, and they have been so surprised that they didn't scare off the Downys in their passing.
